Which is why our innovators are striving to enable a low-carbon economy through solutions that help customers cut emissions through everything from advanced solar materials, to waterborne and plant-based coating resins, to reducing methane emissions from cattle.


          Why is climate change so important? Our planet is now approaching the “1.5 to 2 degree ceiling” in global average temperature rise defined by the UN as the prelude to ecological disaster.

          Limiting society’s use of fossil fuels

          We’re reducing our society’s reliance on fossil fuels through renewable energy solutions like our?Anti-Reflective coatings for solar glass. Based on unique nano-particle technology they squeeze an all-important 3% additional power gain from solar PV modules compared to non-treated equivalents - helping to make affordable solar energy a reality for all.

          Farmyard emissions

          It isn’t just cars that emit noxious gases. Cows are responsible for emitting methane, a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2.

          Which is why our scientists have developed a special feed ingredient for sustainable farming that significantly reduces these emissions.

          Increasingly we’re helping the world’s device manufacturers make ‘thinnovation’ a reality through smaller, lighter - and greener - materials that consume and emit less energy.

          Carbon emissions

          Reducing carbon emissions in cars means reducing both weight and heat in the engine. Our own road to zero emissions began nearly a decade ago when our research teams began studying the effects of wear and friction on plastics in order to develop special material types with high abrasion resistance and low friction in the extreme heat of the engine. The friction reduction they achieved means that we can now save 1 gram of CO2 for every km driven.
